Canada vs USSR 1987 Bench clearing brawl
Canada Russia Hockey Fight • The "Punch-up in Piestany" erupted halfway through the final game of the 1987 world junior hockey championship. Canada was assured a medal, and would have moved ahead of Finland for the gold if they had beaten the Soviets by at least five goals. • The blow-up began as a fight between Pavel Kostichkin and Theoren Fleury. Four Soviet players left their bench to join the brawl, and then all the players on both teams swarmed onto the ice. Excerpt from cbc.ca.

1987 WJHC - Canada vs Russia brawl
1987 WJHC - Canada vs Russia brawl
One of the most infamous incidents in WJHC history occurred in 1987 in Piestany, Czechoslovakia where a massive bench clearing brawl between Canada and the Soviet Union led to both teams being disqualified from the tournament. While the Soviets were out of medal contention, Canada was playing for the gold medal, and were leading 4-2 at the time of the brawl. It began when Pavel Kostichkin took a two handed slash at Theoren Fleury beginning the melee. The USSR's Evgeny Davydov was the first player off the bench, leading to both benches clearing. The officials could not break up the fight so they left the ice and eventually tried turning out the arena lights. The brawl lasted for 20 minutes. Afterwards, Soviet hockey official Anatoly Kastriukov claimed a trainer for the Canadian team had fuelled hostilities by coming over to the Soviet bench and pummelling one of their assistant coaches. The Canadians maintained that the Soviets had started the brawl by leaving their bench first. Neither team was allowed to attend the players' banquet at the end of the tournament.

IMPROVISATION: Playing Phrases that Make Sense
www.creativeguitarstudio.com Search Andrew Wasson.com for FREE lesson Handouts. This Video: April 08, 2011 | Search Videos by Title/Date. GO TO: www.andrewwasson.com Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question... Q: I've been working with my guitar teacher on soloing. We are using simple two chord jams covering 8 beats in 4/4 time. My problem is that my lines are not really sounding very good. They don't make much sense. Everything I play just sounds like twisting strands of detached notes. My teacher hasn't been of much help, he just keeps telling me to play with more soul and feeling. This frustrates me even more, because that kind of remark comes across as a really empty comment to me. I wish I could come to Creative Guitar and study with you, but your studio is over a thousand miles away. My birthday is May 21st, and I'm getting a webcam and I will definitely be ordering a Skype lesson from you. I really hope you can read and maybe even answer my question! Thanks for all that you do on YouTube! - Ian, Hamilton, ON. Canada A: For most players - the early days of soloing and making improvised music on the guitar can feel like there's a huge lack of musical sense. Some players I've taught here in the studio use blinding speed to cover this up, but this certainly doesn't solve the problem either. I can remember many years back when I was studying with Scott Henderson at GIT, he said several times that Music is a language and the sentences of your ...

Canada Cup '87... Lemieux + Gretzky = Magic
Canada Cup '87... Lemieux + Gretzky = Magic
MAGIC in HAMILTON!! The NHL needs HAMILTON!!! Here is my favourite Hockey Moment of All-Time! The 2 greatest players of All-Time had not only joined forces under the red and white of the maple leaf... but united on the same line! There will never be another Wayne or Mario again this was truly a great time to be a Hockey fan. Following the exciting 1972 Summit Series between Canada and the Soviet Union (Canada won that one too!), interest in a world professional ice hockey championship increased substantially. The Canada Cup would bring together the top hockey-playing countries in the world. It was held in 1976, 1981, 1984, 1987 and 1991. It featured competition between teams representing Canada, Czechoslovakia, Finland, the Soviet Union, Sweden, the United States, and (in 1984 only, taking the place of Finland) West Germany. All the tournaments were won by Canada except the 1981 tournament, which was won by the Soviet Union. The 1987 event is often called one of the most spectacular in hockey history.

2007 IIHF U20 Canada vs USA Shootout
Shootout from the Semifinal Round of the 2007 IIHF World Junior Tournament, Canada vs USA **************************************** NOTE: This video was posted to show a great shootout and highlight some fantastic young players. It is a sports video for hockey fans. Unfortunately, despite warnings to the contrary, some people with nothing better to do than swear at users and insult nations abused the privilege of commenting on this video. As a result, it was impossible to keep up with deleting and policing the ridiculous and uncalled for comments, so comments have been disabled for this video. Again, my apologies to those who wanted to discuss good, clean hockey. Too bad a bunch of 14 year olds (age and mentally alike) ruined it for the rest of us. ****************************************
